Safe drinking water is an essential resource for our citizens and our goal each and every day of the year is to provide you with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water. Efforts are made to continually improve the water treatment process and protect our water resources.
Our water source is the St. Clair River, one of the most beautiful rivers in the world. This freshwater, swift flowing river flows from the mouth of Lake Huron and passes the water filtration plant on its way to Lake Erie. Great Lakes water is the most beautiful and one of the cleanliest water sources in the Northern Hemisphere.
City Conducting Residential Water Line Survey
If your home was built before 1970, our Building Department would like to schedule an inspection of your water service line to see whether or not it is made of lead. Water service lines are the smaller sized pipes (typically ¾” or 1”) that provide City water from the larger sized water mains in the street (typically 4” to 10”) to your residence.
The inspection involves a member of our Building Department entering your basement or crawlspace to locate where the pipe penetrates your home’s wall or floor so the service line piping material may be identified.
Service lines made of lead can be found in older homes typically built between 1910 and 1950. Information gathered from the survey will be used to build a sensible plan of lead service line replacement.
