Treasurer's Department
An important duty of the Treasurer's Department is collecting the real and personal property taxes for the City of Marysville, as well as for the St. Clair County, the State of Michigan, and the Marysville School District. There are two main collection times: the summer taxes collected in July and the winter taxes collected between December 1st and the middle of February. This department prepares the tax bills, distributes them, and ensures the payment of those bills.
In addition to collecting tax revenues, Treasury also assists in distributing and collecting the Water/Sewer bills. The flat rate customers (primarily homeowners) are billed semi-annually: July 1st and December 1st. Metered customers (primarily commercial and industrial) are billed quarterly.
The Treasurer's Department also sells County dog licenses from December 1st through February 28th. City Golf Course Memberships are available for purchase year round for individuals, couples, and families that are residents.
ELIGIBILITY FOR DEFERRED TAXES OR REDUCED UTILITY PAYMENTS:
TAXES: Senior Citizens, Eligible Veterans, Paraplegics, Quadriplegics,
Totally Disabled, and Blind Persons having a total household income in the
prior taxable year of $35,000 or less may file an affidavit with the
Treasurer after June 1st and before September 15th to defer payment of
summer taxes without penalty or interest until February 15. Ask your
Treasurer to assist you with this deferment.
UTILITIES: Senior Citizens who have attained the age of 65 and own and live
in their own home from which they derive no income and have a total
household income in the prior year of $20,000 or less are eligible for a 30%
discount on their water/sewer bill. Senior Citizens are required to make
application at the City Treasurer's office and provide an itemization of the
total household income (or copy of last year's MI - 1040CR form).
Condominium owners whose water/sewer bills are paid by their condominium
association are to make application prior to June 15th for the July billing
and prior to November 15th for the December billing of each year.
