Guidelines for reference on trash day:

 (1) Yard waste collection will commence on April 1 and will continue through November 26 on refuse collection day. Use containers marked with an "X" or compostable bags only. The containers are not to exceed 50 lbs. Plastic bags are not accepted under any circumstances. Small sticks under 2 inches in diameter, grass clippings, leaves and garden waste are compost. If trash and yard waste is mixed together it will not be picked up, put only yard waste in "X" containers. Containers must be out at 7:00 a.m. on trash day.

(2) LEAF COLLECTION - leaf collection program will start the week of October 13 and end the week of December 1, 2008.

(3) BRANCHES - up to 4 feet in length are to be placed out to the curb for collection with the large ends facing the street and neatly stacked. Bundling the branches is preferred and appreciated, but not required. Branches will be picked up with your trash and taken to the landfill.

(4) RECYCLABLES -Do not put garbage bags on top of recycle bin. Try to arrange the recyclables in a manner where they will stay intact in the bin on their own. Plastic # 1 & 2, cans, glass, and newspaper, (black & white only) can be placed in bin. Glossy prints and comics are to be put in trash container. There is a cardboard bin at the eastside of the DPS building for large cardboard only, with no packaging debris inside.  Please: No cardboard with contaminants (food, gas, oil, wax coating, etc.),  beer/ pop can cases and tires.

(5) TIME - For collection of large items (which can be put out anytime during the year), compost, trash and recycling put out by 7:00 a.m. on  trash day. The City ordinance prohibits placing it on the curb before 6:00 p.m. the night before.  Call the DPS if your refuse did not get picked up on trash day. Schedules can and will change, that is why everyone has to have their refuse out by 7:00 a.m. No extra pickups will take place.

(6) HOLIDAYS-When New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day falls on or prior to the regular scheduled service day, the service will be a day later.

(7) PAINT - Latex paint cans can be placed to the curb with trash, but you must leave the lids off and place them next to your barrel or bag. If paint is not completely dry, put cat liter or sand in the can to absorb remaining paint. Oil paint is considered a hazardous item, see below.

(8) WOOD - no longer than 4 feet in length can be picked up. Make sure no nails are in the wood. If you have any questions on any items, call  810-364-8340.

(9)  HAZARDOUS ITEMS - like oil base paint, lawn fertilizer, etc. you can call the Smith Creek Landfill at 367-3784 and make an appointment, in which you must have.

(10) RESIDENTIAL PICK UP SCHEDULE -RICHFIELD MANAGEMENT is our refuse collection agency.  They are under contract with the city to pick up trash on WEDNESDAY.
