Absent Ballot Voting

If you are unable to vote at the polls on Election Day, or want to vote by mail, you can apply for an Absent Voter Ballot ( A.V. Ballot). There are six reasons that will enable you to vote by mail:
1. If you will be absent from the community in which you are registered the entire time the polls are open.
2. If you are physically unable to attend the polls without the assistance of another.
3. If you cannot attend the polls because of the tenets of your religion.
4. If you have been appointed an election precinct inspector in a precinct other than the precinct where you reside.
5. If you are 60 years of age or older.
6. If you cannot attend the polls because you are confined to jail awaiting arraignment or trial.

You can ask for an application through our link above, by stopping in to the City Clerk's office, or by phone (810) 364-6613. If you wish, you may apply for an Absent Voter Ballot by letter, in which you should include your home address and the address to which the absent ballot is to be sent. It is important that you sign your request with the same name that is on your voter registration, and state the reason you need to vote by absentee.

An application for an absent voter's ballot must be submitted for each election and received by the Clerk not later than 7 days prior to the election. An individual application is needed for each person requesting a ballot.
